Adults:

You never learned to cycle. You are not the only one.

Saddlewerkz teaches adults to cycle in Singapore: private one-hour lessons at the National Stadium, one learner and one coach, $90 an hour, with the bike, helmet and safety gear provided. Most adults are pedalling on their own inside the first hour.

Lesson:

How an adult lesson works.

You never learned, or you learned to be afraid. Both are common, and both are fixable. The coach watches what your body is actually doing, fixes that one thing, and builds from there, at your pace.

An adult lesson on your own is $90 an hour. Learning with a partner or a friend is $120 an hour for the two of you. Pay for five lessons upfront and the total is 10% off: five single lessons are $405 instead of $450. The bike, helmet and safety gear are included in every rate.

Over 60:

Learning to cycle after 60.

Learners who were never given the chance, now learning to ride with grandchildren or to tick it off a list. Lessons for learners over 60 are single-learner only: a learner over 60 needs the coach’s full attention and closer supervision, so we do not teach 60+ learners in duos or groups. It is the same hour, at the same price as any single lesson.

Guide:

Learning to cycle as an adult in Singapore.

How long does it take?

Most learners, adults included, are pedalling on their own inside the first hour. A second and third lesson usually cover turning, braking, mounting and riding among other people. Adults who want to ride on public paths and cross roads often come back for a few more, sometimes a year or two later: two of the adult reviews below are from learners who did exactly that.

Will I fall?

You do not need to. With the saddle low and both feet on the ground, you learn to glide and balance before you ever pedal, and the coach stays alongside. Speed comes only after control does.

What should I bring?

Water, closed shoes and clothes you can move in. We bring the bike, the helmet and the safety gear.

What happens after I can ride?

The goal is the public path, not the stadium. Once you are riding, lessons move on to cycling etiquette, defensive cycling, signalling and braking, and to Singapore’s rules for footpaths, shared paths and roads. What we teach about safe cycling.

Remarks:

Adult learners, in their own words.

I’m an adult who has had unsuccessful attempts to learn how to ride a bicycle. I’ve often been met with incredulous questions like, “You actually paid to learn cycling? This is why.

Coach Elise’s lessons, explained in a way I can truly understand, are highly tailored to each individual. She identified my weaknesses, corrected my bad habits, and provide solutions to my specific requests. Her encouragements played a huge role in building the confidence I needed to ride independently. By Lesson 1, I was already pedaling on my own. By Lesson 4, I completed my first full ride, where I navigated sharper turns, crowded paths, slopes, and different terrains.

There’s no hard selling; you plan your sessions at your own pace. I also have friends under her guidance who had failed repeatedly but now managed long-distance rides independently by their second lesson.

For adults who genuinely want to learn, especially if you don’t have that instinctive body coordinations (and even if friends have tried teaching you repeatedly but you still keep falling), I highly recommend her!

P. S. They teach cycling etiquette too, and defensive cycling👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Coach Joseph is a really super good experienced and wonderful teacher to both kids and adults! Highly recommend him especially if it’s for someone who struggles to overcome fear or feel clumsy on the bike.

At first it was really just my kid. We were blown way, by how, just in his first lesson alone he went from not no cycling without training wheels to successfully balancing and pedaling a 2 wheel bike.

I casually mentioned to coach that I can’t really cycle well and am really a hazard when I’m on a bike. He offered to coach me with my son at the same time. I’m so glad I did it. I didn’t expect myself to improve so much in my first lesson. I can now mount confidently, stop safely, turn etc. To my surprise I learned how to stand on the bike!

The biggest gift was that my child learned so much as well even though coach was teaching both of us. He could cycle straight and do turns!

Coach Joseph is really patient. I love that his teachings are very structured and it helps to allay fears/debunks myths that we have about cycling and falling down. We learnt how to ride a bike in around 30 mins! If you want to learn how to cycle, it doesn’t matter how old you are — a kid or an adult, I’ll highly recommend you to go for a lesson with Coach Joseph!

Update: We attended 3 more lessons in 2025 (2 years after our first lesson with Joseph) to improve on our cycling techniques, and it was honestly one of the best decisions we made. Each lesson felt purposeful, progressive, and helped to build our confidence. What really stood out is how he adapts his teaching to our pace and goals, there was no rushing or pressure, just steady improvement. We left each session feeling more confident and genuinely excited to keep cycling. After our last lesson with Joseph, we’re now confident to cycle everywhere we go!

We were referred by a friend, who spoke highly of Coach Joseph’s teaching techniques. Coach Joseph is a great teacher! I managed to learn to cycle in ~40mins, he was patient in explaining cycling fundamentals and helped me understand how it works.

Update: After 2 years, we decided to return for more lessons to develop our proficiency in cycling. After a few more sessions, we gained confidence to cycle in public, across roads etc. Many thanks to Coach Joseph for his guidance and patience in teaching us!

I love it! Coming from previous botched cycling lessons, I was filled with trepidation when it comes to 2-wheel cycling. A friend who has had their successful lesson recommended Coach Elise (also their coach)

It is amazing-we didn’t rush anything. Everything is really structured, with progression at each stage so we can get the feel and hang of balancing before pedaling, which allows student to gain confidence. Her teaching is customized to each student, not a one size fits all approach, which I really appreciate. By end of lesson one, I have managed to push off, pedal and make wide turns without anyone holding me. Credits to Coach Elise of course.

I think this is a fantastic Christmas present – picking up a new skill vs material items! Very meaningful to me ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you so much Coach Elise!
